Beat / Hello Mika, welcome here to the Beat. So, you are the organizer of the Berlin Dance Music Event. Describe a little bit about what the event is and who it is designed for.

Mika / The Berlin Dance Music Event is a multi-day electronic music festival from the scene and for the scene. The festival program includes masterclasses, panel talks, workshops and discussions during the day. After the panels, the post program starts with open air events, club events and showcases. We cover a wide target group. If you are a DJ/Producer, the event is the perfect place to make new contacts, develop yourself personally and develop your skills. If you are a professional (Agent, Manager, Business Owner), the event is the perfect place to present yourself and your project, to learn new skills and trends and to make new contacts. The event also offers a diverse night program that takes place in over 16 locations in Berlin, making it an exciting event for Ravers.

Beat / There will be various conferences with discussion panels and workshops? What are the topics of the conferences and which target groups are they aimed at?

Mika / The conferences, panels and workshops at our event are designed to meet the specific needs and interests of the music industry. Here are some examples of conference topics and target groups: Music Business is aimed at Label Operators, Artist Managers, Music Publishers and other professionals in the music industry, as well as Promoters. Topics include Distribution, Marketing Strategies, New Business Strategies and Networking. Technology and Innovation is aimed at Music Producers, Sound Designers and other industry professionals who are interested in the latest technological developments and innovations. It covers topics such as music production software, sound engineering and audio hardware, and new tools for the advancement of the music industry.

Marketing is aimed at music marketers and record labels interested in digital marketing and social media strategies. Sustainability is aimed at music events and festivals that are committed to sustainability and environmental issues. It covers topics such as energy efficiency, waste reduction and green technologies. The Masterclasses are workshops led by well-known DJs and Producers. They are aimed at aspiring artists and producers who want to improve their skills and knowledge in the (electronic) music industry.

Diversity is about issues such as Equality, Racism, LGBTQ+ Rights and Accessibility. We want to create a platform to enable open discussion.

Beat / In addition to networking and cultivating contacts, the focus is also on improving skills. What skills are we talking about specifically?

Mika / This year we have masterclasses and workshops in Hard Techno Production, Modular Synthesizer, Vinyl DJ Masterclass, as well as many more in Melodic Techno, Drum n‘ Bass and Gabber/Hardcore. From the talks and panel discussions, you can learn about new innovations, such as AI Mastering, monetizing DJ mixes and many more. In addition, the conference will teach you a number of soft skills: How do I market myself as an artist? When do I need management and can I manage myself? What are the hurdles and challenges as a rising star? We cover a complete range from beginning to advanced.
