Behind The Beat episode #39 with Cordial: Copper, Connectors & Creativity

Published 1:18 pm on Wednesday 11th September 2024 by Beat Magazine

If you want to improve your own studio, you will need to ask yourself a few questions: "Simple" copper or oxygen-free copper? Jacks made of gold or silver? PVC, high-quality plastics or natural materials? How thick should the sheating-, how long does the cable need to be? Do I require an individual solution for each connection or is there a cable for every occasion?

Unfortunately, the answers are not clear-cut.

One thing is certain: quality definitely plays a role – it's just that the devil's in the details. Good cables eliminate clicks, dropouts, transmission errors, and interferences. They are sturdy and flame-retardant, and offer protection against liquids and other potentially hazardous substances. They are easy to coil and provide visual orientation. Innovations such as biomaterials, fluorescent jackets and "quiet" jacks are furthermore optimising aspects extending beyond pure signal transmission.

Cordial, located close to Munich in the South of Germany, has been working on cable solutions for a variety of situations with major B2B customers for a quarter of a century. Their experience ranges from studios to concert stages, from intimate clubs to huge festival stages. The know-how they've built up is also reflected in their cables for end users. For us, this makes them the ideal partner for a podcast fully committed to what also happens to be the Cordial perogative: Cables should not be a mystery.
