Prolight + Sound 2025: Touch, Learn, Experience

In-Ear monitoring: This is the Silent Stage

It is rarely “quiet” on stage. There are usually large monitors and loudspeakers everywhere so that the audience can hear the band and the musicians can hear themselves. But what do the actors on stage who use in-ear monitoring actually hear? You can find out for yourself using the Silent Stage as a practical example.

The Silent Stage will run for three 30-minute slots every day for the entire duration of the trade fair: at 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00 and on the last day of the trade fair at 12:00 and 14:00. Together with the event band, P.A.C.E., and their varied repertoire, the company InEar will be presenting how the use of InEar monitoring products affects the stage, while you can listen via various InEar models. In addition, monitoring expert Carsten Hesse aka Slick Prolidol will explain the use and benefits of the various products on stage.

In-Ear Monitoring offers musicians numerous advantages on stage. On stage, volumes of up to 130 dB are often reached - a level that can be harmful to hearing in the long term. This strain can be significantly reduced with In-Ear-Monitoring, as the monitors are worn directly in the ear and allow individually adjusted volume levels. This protects your hearing without having to sacrifice clear and precise sound reproduction.

At the same time, In-Ear-Monitoring minimizes disturbing feedback and creates a quiet stage environment, which not only protects health, but also improves the playing quality of the musicians. In this way, In-Ear-Monitoring enhances the overall quality of the stage experience for the performers and the audience alike.

Education & Traning: This is the ProAudio College

Audio professionals and, of course, all interested newcomers to the industry have a place to go: the ProAudio College, which is run jointly with the Verband Deutscher Tonmeister e.V. (Association of German Sound Engineers). After the great success of the event in previous years, the offer will be expanded and internationalized. The ProAudio Lounge awaits you with a variety of networking opportunities.

The lecture program will focus on current trends in the sound reinforcement scene, innovations in home studio productions and exclusive training modules from the SQQ7 Educational Standard curriculum. This was developed by a broad-based working group under the leadership of the VDT and defines learning objectives for further training to become a “Certified Sound Specialist”.

Topics covered by the ProAudio College include Hearing Training, The Physical Principles of Acoustics, Signal Sources and Signal Processing, Network Technology and Intercom Systems. Current tasks in the sound reinforcement scene are discussed at the ProAudio College, as are the latest developments in the industry. But the core questions that every studio operator faces during productions are also a topic, as are future scenarios and tips for career starters.

All participants receive written confirmation of the knowledge they have acquired. The lectures are held partly in German and partly in English.
