Happy Birthday!

303, 808, 909 ... everything 50% off! d16 celebrates its birthday

Summary of the test for current d16 updates

In terms of sound, Nepheton 2 is one of the best-sounding TR-808 emulations and is even on a par with hardware replicas. In addition to some new sounds, the important area of post-processing with effects and the sequencer have been expanded in version 2, which extends the sonic possibilities far beyond the classic 808 grooves. For us personally, this makes Nepheton 2 the most interesting virtual TR-808 on the market currently.

Drumazon 2 doesn't come with any spectacular new features, but offers useful additions at a reasonable price. In terms of sound, Drumazon was already one of the best-sounding TR-909 emulations before the update and is even on a par with hardware replicas. In version 2, the equally important area of post-processing with effects and the sequencer has been further expanded, which extends the sonic possibilities beyond the typical 909 grooves. This puts Drumazon 2 at the top of the TR-909 replicas from our point of view.

Lush 2 combines the simple operation and solid sound of the SH-101 with hardsync, supersaw, multimode filter and modmatrix to create a flexible synthesizer that can be played polyphonically. Its unique selling point is the eight layers for complex sounds, which makes for interesting rhythmic and animated results when using arpeggios (but also challenges the CPU).

Syntorus 2 is an excellent choice for a wide range of vintage-sounding chorus effects. The plug-in does an excellent job of giving sterile synthesizer sounds more life or adding breadth and warmth to acoustic and electric instruments and vocals. It can also help to soften harsh hi-hats in a musical way. For the price, the buyer gets a great deal. The only thing we would have liked to see is adjustable feedback for flanger effects.
